The All India Judges Badminton Championship, a first-of-its-kind sporting initiative aimed at promoting fitness, well-being, and camaraderie within the judicial fraternity, was successfully conducted with the support of the Ministry of Law and Justice and approval of the Supreme Court of India.
The championship was organised by former international badminton player and coach Ms. Abantika Deka, Founder of Deka Events, AD Badminton Academy, and Abantika Foundation.
The prestigious event witnessed the participation of around 95 judges from across India, including Hon’ble chief justices and the Hon’ble judges from various High Courts. The championship was graced by the august presence of the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Mr. Justice BR Gavai , former Chief Justice of India, and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Bikram Nath , the incoming Chief Justice of India, along with few Hon’ble judges from the Supreme Court of India , marking a historic moment for judicial sports in the country. Their participation and encouragement highlighted the growing importance of sports and fitness in the judicial ecosystem.
Ms. Abantika Deka is a distinguished name in Indian badminton. She is a National Champion (1999), having won titles in both Under-13 and Under-16 doubles categories in Vijayawada. Over the years, she has secured several national and international titles and represented India at various international platforms, including participation in the Asian Badminton Championship 2025.
She also served as the Official Indian Team Coach in 2017, a landmark year when Lakshya Sen, former World No. 1, won the singles title and created history for India after a gap of 55 years.
Due to multiple knee injuries, Ms. Deka was compelled to step away from her professional playing career. Turning adversity into purpose, she began organising badminton tournaments for doctors, lawyers, and judges from 2019, with a vision to integrate sports, fitness, and professional excellence.
Building on the success of the All India Judges Badminton Championship, Ms. Deka is currently preparing for several upcoming landmark events, including:
• Premier Law Badminton League – Season 2
• World Lawyers Badminton Championship
• World Judicial Badminton Championship
These initiatives are being undertaken with the support of the Department of Justice and the Supreme Court of India, further strengthening India’s leadership in promoting sports-driven wellness among professional communities.
The All India Judges Badminton Championship stands as a testament to the power of sport in fostering unity, health, and excellence within the judiciary, setting a strong foundation for future global judicial sporting events.
