TRANSFERS Anderlecht is working on a contract extension for Nathan De Cat, but keeping him will not be easy. Sporting director Olivier Renard realizes this all too well. “In fact, he should be a starter for us for another two years, but in modern football youngsters are stolen so quickly.”
De Cat still has a contract until mid-2027. “Before people start shouting ‘Sign him for five years with the highest salary’, I should just say that we can only offer him one extra year, until 2028,” Renard refers to the legislation that stipulates that players under the age of 18 may not be signed for more than three seasons.
Other factors will also determine De Cat’s future at Anderlecht. Renard refers to whether Anderlecht will reach European football and how big the fuzz around the player will become.
