Badminton: SC Itzehoe Top League | News & Updates

Despite the clear final score of 7:1, it was anything but an easy victory for the Itzehoer team on Sunday morning in Kronshagen. A total of six matches went the full distance of three sets, with the Störstadt team managing to come away victorious four times after being down a set.
Things got particularly exciting right at the start in the second men’s doubles, where Dirk Kaack and Malte Blohm already had match point against them in the second set, but still equalized the set at 23:21.

It was only in the second half of the deciding set that the SCI duo broke away and secured the point with a strong finish. Ole Beyer and Paul Schuldt had a much easier time in the first men’s doubles, which went to Störstädter in two sets.
However, the 2-0 lead did not bring the security we had hoped for. The game threatened to tip over when, in quick succession, the women’s doubles Andrees/Soltwisch had to accept the equalizer of the set after a strong start and the first set also went to the hosts in the second and third men’s singles.

In the deciding set, however, the SCI women were able to improve again and won 21:14 and Blohm also got the corner in time in the second men’s singles and won in three close sets. Only team captain Dirk Kaack had to admit defeat in three sets despite a great fight. Since Schuldt also scored another point thanks to a strong performance in the top singles, the away win for the Steinburgers was secured early with a score of 5:1.

However, this did not affect the intensity of the games. The women’s singles and the mixed doubles also went the full distance again, again with the better end for the Itzehoe sports club.
The SCI is at the top of the Landesliga Nord table with 8:0 points.
Whether this place can be maintained will become clear next Saturday when the Steinburgers welcome the still unbeaten title favorites SG Großsolt/Munkbrarup in Wellenkamp.

The weekend was less successful for the second team from the Itzehoe sports club. In the home duel with the fifth representative from BW Wittorf, there was a clear 2:6 defeat.

Carsten Grelck and Stefan Mantey were successful for the SCI in a thrilling second men’s doubles with 22:20 in the decisive third set. Grelck also secured the second point with a convincing performance in the second men’s singles. In the following games, the Störstädter always played well, but it wasn’t enough to win another set, so the away win for the Neumünster team was absolutely deserved.

This puts the Itzehoer team in second-to-last place in the table, but they have the chance to leave this position next Saturday by winning a point in Stockelsdorf.
