The new Sport Arena Vienna in the second district offers training opportunities for 20 sports on 13,000 square meters and is Austria’s first energy -neutral sports hall of this size.
The new Sport Arena Vienna opened its doors in early September. The 133 million euro hall in the second district replaces the old Ferry Dusika Stadium and promises a revolution for Viennese sport.
From 8,600 to 38,000 hours a year – these figures show the true extent of the change. The modern multifunctional hall finally creates the urgently needed training opportunities for clubs, schools and athletes.
Three halls, 20 sports, 3,000 spectators
The heart of the new arena forms three independently playable halls on 13,000 square meters of sports field. Thanks to flexible stands, the large ball sports hall holds up to 3,000 spectators – perfect for national league games and smaller international events.
The range of sports is impressively diverse:

7,000 visitors celebrated the start
The opening festival on September 6 attracted around 7,000 sports enthusiasts in Viennese. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., families were able to explore the arena free of charge and become active at hands -on stations.
Handball target throwing with speed measurement, basketball dribbling course and badminton taster courses-the sports associations showed impressively what is possible in the new halls. A colorful stage program with music and shows rounded off the successful day.
Austria’s first energy -neutral sports hall
The Sport Arena Vienna sets new standards in terms of sustainability. As the first sports hall of this size in Austria, it works entirely energy -neutral with renewable energies.

Part of the 400 million plan
The new arena is a central component of the city of Vienna’s sports facility development plan. By 2030, the capital will invest around 400 million euros in its sports infrastructure.
“A lot more space and completely different options,” emphasized Sports City Councilor Peter Hacker when you visit the construction site in April. The arena closes an important gap between small club halls and the great arexes of the city.
Numerous associations have already secured fixed training times. The Vienna Badminton Association and the Vienna Basketball Association plan to use the arena intensively for training and competitions. The operators expect schools, clubs and national championships to be high.
