Football Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg is faced with the obligation of the Danes Christian Eriksen. The 33 -year -old record national player is without a club after the expiry of his contract at Manchester United and should shortly sign a contract with the Lower Saxony, as “Bild”, the Danish “tipbladet” and the “kicker”. Only the medical check is pending.
Eriksen had last kept fit at the Swedish club Malmö FF. For Manchester United, the Dane had played 35 competitive games last season. He was not in the squad at the World Cup qualification games Denmark against Scotland (0: 0) and Greece (3: 0).
Eriksen gained worldwide fame at the European Championship four years ago when he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch. In the 43rd minute in the preliminary round game against Finland, Eriksen collapsed and had to be reanimated on the field. Since then he has been playing with a defibrillator used.
At Wolfsburg, Eriksen meets some compatriots: With managing director Peter Christiansen and the new teammates Jonas Wind, Jesper Lindström, Joakim Mæhle, Andreas Skov Olsen and Adam Daghim there is already a large Denmark connection. The Dane brings the experience from over 300 premier League games, in Champions and Europa League he comes together to over 100 games. Bayer Leverkusen is also said to have been interested in Eriksen.
