Latvian Football Star ikaunieks Dominates Annual Survey
For the second consecutive year, RFS striker Vladislavs Ikaunieks has been crowned the top footballer in Latvia according to a recent survey of experts. The 29-year-old Kuldižnik’s remarkable performance throughout the year solidified his position as a dominant force in Latvian football.
Ikaunieks’s prolific goal-scoring prowess was evident both domestically and on the European stage. He spearheaded RFS’s remarkable run in the UEFA Europa League, netting nine goals in just 14 appearances and helping the team secure a coveted spot in the main tournament. His contributions were equally vital in the Latvian Premier League, were he amassed an impressive 16 goals and seven assists, ultimately leading RFS to the championship title.
The survey, conducted among 51 football experts, saw Ikaunieks receive overwhelming support. An astounding 45 participants placed him at the top of their rankings, highlighting his widespread recognition as the nation’s premier footballer. Andrejas Cigaņikas of ”Luzern” (formerly lodz “Widzew”) and Latvian national team captain Krister Tober of Zurich “Grasshoppers” followed in second and third place respectively.
The survey also recognized other notable Latvian footballers who made meaningful contributions throughout the year. Players like Roberts Savalnieks, Roberts Uldriķis, Dario Shits, Lukas Vapne, and Marko Regža, among others, were included in the top six rankings by at least one expert, showcasing the depth of talent within Latvian football.
The latvian Football Federation (LFF) will officially announce the best footballer of the year at a prestigious awards ceremony scheduled for January. Ikaunieks’s remarkable achievements throughout the year make him a strong contender for the coveted title.
