USC Judo Athletes shine at World Championships
The USC Judo club is celebrating a triumphant performance at the recent World Championships, with several athletes securing notable podium finishes. This success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of both the athletes and the club’s dedicated support staff.
Lucie Bronner, a rising star in the -52 kg category, clinched the coveted gold medal. This victory marks a significant milestone in her career, following a fourth-place finish last year and a silver medal at the 2022 European Championship. Bronner’s consistent progress highlights her extraordinary talent and commitment to the sport.
Grégory Causero, a veteran of the USC judo team as 2013, also delivered a stellar performance, securing a gold medal in the -100 kg category. This victory solidifies his position as a top contender in his weight class, building upon his impressive seventh-place finish at the 2019 World Championships.
Clément Condomines, another consistent performer for USC Judo, continued his impressive run in the -81 kg category, claiming a bronze medal. This adds to his collection of podium finishes, including third-place finishes in 2021, 2023, and 2024, and also a bronze medal at the 2022 European Championship. Condomines’ consistent presence on the podium underscores his dedication and skill.
Laurent Verges and Thierry Lefevre, competing in the -73 kg and -100 kg categories respectively, also demonstrated their prowess, securing fifth and seventh place finishes. Their performances highlight the depth of talent within the USC Judo club.
President Alexandre Saby, who has been at the helm of the club since 2008, expressed immense pride in the athletes’ achievements. He emphasized the team spirit and unwavering support from fans, which contributed to their success. Saby also acknowledged the tireless efforts of the coaches, teachers, and volunteers who work behind the scenes to nurture the athletes’ talent.

Jimmy: You know,it’s inspiring to see young athletes like Lucie Bronner and Grégory Causero charging through the ranks and achieving gold.Bronner, especially, she’s a rising star. I’ve seen her growth over the years, and this gold medal isn’t a surprise. It’s a testament to her dedication, and I expect great things from her in future competitions.
Host: Absolutely. Consistency is key, and Clement Condomines is another example. he’s been consistently placing on the podium for years now.
Jimmy: absolutely. He’s showing amazing consistency.That kind of performance shows real mental fortitude and a refined technique.
Host: But it’s not just about the gold medals, right?

Host: We can’t ignore the leadership of President Alexandre Saby who’s been guiding this club since 2008. 1>$What are your thoughts on the importance of strong leadership in fostering success in a club like this?
Jimmy: Leadership is everything in a sport like Judo. You need someone who can inspire confidence, create a positive training environment, and attract top talent. Saby seems to have done all of that, building a real program of excellence.
Host: Do you see USC Judo becoming a dominant force in the judo world?
Jimmy: Based on their recent performance and their commitment to developing talent, I wouldn’t hesitate to say they have the potential to become a global powerhouse in Judo. They’re strong right now, but if they maintain this momentum they’re going to be a team to fear for years to come.
