To the experienced Swiss tennis player Stan Wawrinka (37 years old), who was playing his sixth match of the week at the ATP 250 Metz (France), where he was invited to play the preliminary phase, his physical condition took its toll on him, one day after beating the Swedish Mikael Ymer by 6- 4, 4-6 and 7-6(5) after almost three hours, for which he had to say goodbye in his semifinal match.

Wawrinka retired in the third game of the first set, just as his opponent broke him; the scoreboard favored the Kazakh Alexander Bublik by 2-1. The former world number 3 gave the big surprise by beating first-seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev in the second round on Thursday 6-4, 6-7(7), 6-3.

Bublik will face the Italian in Sunday’s final Lorenzo Sonego, who defeated defending champion Hubert Hurkacz 7-6(5), 6-4 in the first inning of the day. If he is champion, the Kazakh will win his second ATP title, even the only one was at the ATP 250 Montpellier (France) this year; Meanwhile, Sonego aspires to his third ATP title, remembering that he was champion of the ATP 250 in Antalya (Turkey) in 2019 and Cagliari (Italy) in 2021.
