Defensive end of Notre Dame All-American, potential first round pick Julian Okwara for the season

Notre Dame, number 16, lost defensive back Julian Okwara for the remainder of the season due to a fractured fibula, coach Brian Kelly told reporters Sunday. The injury came late in the first half of Saturday's win against Duke, who lost in pursuit of Blue Devils quarterback Quinten Harris.

"Julian Okwara has a broken fracture and he will not come back this year," Kelly said. "We feel very bad for him.He will have a procedure to follow here once we have found all the details, but it's a broken fibula that he suffered when he was in a hurry."

It's a huge loss for an Irish team of fights that is still fighting for a spot in the New Year's bowl although it has escaped from the college football playoff conflict. Okwara leads the team with five sacks. He also has seven tackles for defeat and seven quarter shifts in nine games this season.

The 6-foot-4, 241-pound Charlotte was voted at the second team of AP team All-American preseason before the start of the 2019 season. He had 38 tackles, 12.5 tackles for defeat and eight sacks last season and played a significant role in the regular season and the undefeated position of his team.

Okwara is considered one of the top prospects in the draft NFL 2020. He is currently ranked # 25 overall and No. 3 in the latest Eligible Lead Rankings.

Notre Dame will welcome the Marine No 21 Saturday at 14:30. AND.
