(Motorsport-Total.com) – Jack Aitken (Campos) won the Formula 2 sprint at Silverstone on Sunday and celebrated his second win of the season in his home race. The Briton caught the long-running Swiss Louis Deletraz (Carlin) in the final stages of the 14th race of the season and had a lead of 4.9 seconds after 21 laps.

Third was Nyck de Vries (ART). With the seventh podium result this season, the Dutchman extended his lead in the championship standings to Nicholas Latifi (DMAS), who finished fifth behind pole-sitter Callum Ilott (Charouz) on Sunday, 31 points.
Mick Schumacher (Prema) drove with a fierce idea of starting eleventh in sixth place. Nobuharu Matsushita (Carlin) and Guanyu Zhou (Virtuosi) completed the top 8, scoring points in the sprint race.
It looked a long time on Sunday after the first Formula 2 victory of Deletraz. The Swiss had won the race from second place and led the race for 16 of 21 laps. In the end, but apparently broke his tires. On lap 17 Aitken attacked, passed his rival and was able to settle.
In the chasing field Schumacher provided thrilling duels with Zhou and Latifi, but also with two wild rides at the exit of the fast Stowe curve. Once again, the son of seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher got along better in the sprint race than on Saturday and finished in the points for the fifth time this season.
The race was unfortunate for third-placed Luca Ghiotto (Virtuosi), who won the main race on Saturday. Lying in the points he had to come shortly before the end of the race because of a puncture to the pits and ultimately came only on rank 15 finish.
Races 15 and 16 of the 2019 Formula 2 season will take place on August 3rd and 4th as part of the Hungarian Grand Prix on the Hungaroring near Budapest.
