The Professional Football League (LFP) decided on Tuesday to launch the call for applications relating to the commercialization of the audiovisual rights of the Ligue 2 and the Coupe de la Ligue for the seasons 2020-2021 to 2023-2024.
A few months after reaching the historic record of 1.153 billion euros per year for Ligue 1 rights, the LFP also hopes for a significant increase in rights held until 2020 by BeIN Sports. To highlight its competitions, the LFP recalls that, during the last season, there were 2.72 goals per game in L2 and the attendance at the stadium increased by 5%.
Decision December 4
Starting in 2020, the Saturday multiplex will be scheduled at 7 pm while the two historical time slots (Saturday 3 pm and Monday 8:45 pm) for staggered matches are maintained.
French football officials also say that the League Cup has gathered more than 400,000 spectators in the stadiums and a cumulative audience of 17 million viewers last season.
Will these arguments be enough to decide the operators? If they are, they will have to submit their bids on December 3rd with a decision the next day.
