It is Jean Castex who will chair the board of directors of the future sports agency which will be officially launched in March 2019. This senior official, mayor of Prades and departmental advisor of the Pyrénées-Orientales is, since September 2017, the interministerial delegate to Olympic and Paralympic Games (Dijop). A function that he will continue to exercise.
In particular, Jean Castex led the negotiations with the Seine-Saint-Denis elected officials, in order to come up with a series of arbitrations, following the alarming report of the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) which pointed to a potential risk of exceeding the budget of the Olympic Games of 2024.
Four colleges will compose the board of directors: the state, the sports movement, local authorities and companies. The Sports Agency, to manage high performance (this branch will be led by Claude Onesta) and the development of sports practice, will be launched in March 2019 and will have a budget of about 350 million euros .
The director general (DG) of this agency is being recruited. It should take office at the beginning of December. Former DG of the French Tennis Federation, Gilbert Ysern has applied.
