Pushed to the stadium San Paolo of Naples, PSG brought back a draw that allows him to have his destiny in hand, two days from the end of the group stage of the Champions League. It is however finished for Monaco, humiliated by Bruges.
Of course, when entering the hot San Paolo of Naples, PSG had in mind the surprising defeat, a few minutes earlier, of Liverpool against the Red Star Belgrade (0-2) in the Champions League. An unlikely rout of the Reds which has the merit of having offered to the winner of the match the honorary title of leader of Pool C. This costume, the Parisians have a time endorsed, thanks to a goal from Bernat at the very end of first period (0-1, 45th), coming to materialize the beautiful performance of Mbappé left side, untenable for three quarters of an hour and decisive passer on the stroke.
An inspiration that was not enough, since Naples, invigorated after the break and who has tackled on a penalty of Insigne (1-1, 63rd), has logically shared points with his visitors. Frustrating for this PSG who had the means to win, even if without a big Buffon in the goals, the men of Thomas Tuchel could also leave with more uncertainties still.
At least they knew how to preserve the essential, namely to keep their fate in their hands. In a group that, after four days, is very far from having delivered its verdict, the PSG is only one point of the head, shared by Liverpool and Naples, while being followed by the Serbs of the Star Red, they too at a length.
Monaco takes a lesson then the door
The dream of mastering one's destiny is already far away for AS Monaco. For his first match of the Champions League at Louis II, Thierry Henry experienced a real ordeal. Miraculously two weeks ago on Club Brugge's field, Monegasques kept a slim hope of qualifying in the event of a win over the same opponent at home. A perspective swept in the space of a first nightmarish half-hour, which saw the Belgians hit three times, by Vakanen (0-1 in the 12th, 0-2 in the 17th) then Wesley (0-3, 24th).
Leaded by this start, unable to react as so often in Ligue 1 this season, AS Monaco has once again hit the bottom. Arms and low heads, teammates Radamel Falcao, released on time, even conceded a fourth goal late in the game by Vormer (0-4, 85th). The humiliation closes the chapter C1 Monegasque this season. And even if mathematically, nothing is finished to snatch the third place of the pool to the Belgians, it will be necessary to make two big performances against the Atletico of Madrid and the Borussia Dortmund, while hoping that Bruges loose catch. An unlikely scenario against the two leaders of Pool A, who have nine points each, Atletico having defeated Dortmund in the evening (2-0). And especially since the 19th L1 will have other cats to whip in the coming weeks.
Barça already qualified, Porto in the right wagon
In the other two groups on the UEFA Champions League Tuesday, things were partly brightened in the race for the eighth. Pool D, in particular, now seems promised to FC Porto or Schalke 04, who won respectively against Lokomotiv Moscow (4-1) and against Galatasaray (2-0). In the standings, Porto have 10 points, two lengths ahead of the German club Gelsenkirchen and with a margin of six points over the champion of Turkey. The adventure is officially over for the Muscovites (0 pt after four days).
Finally, status quo or almost in Group B, where the night clash between Inter Milan and FC Barcelona gave birth to a draw (1-1). Sharing the points allowed the Catalans to formalize their qualification for the eighths. Despite its short defeat, Inter remain in favorable terms, although Tottenham, long in trouble, eventually overthrow PSV Eindhoven (2-1) and now has only three units behind the car of the eighth.
