A kick of karate and a stomp of novel: wild aggression in African football - 08/12/2018

For years, African footballers have not been known for their physical strength or rudeness. In most of the major teams in the world it is common to find one or more players born in that continent. And they tend to be those who unbalance with their talent. However, what happened last Saturday, in the match played by the U-17 teams from Tanzania and Burundi, little and nothing had to do with football. And a lot (or all) of the violence. Everything started when the game was about to end. The boys of Tanzania won 2 to 1 and waited for the final to celebrate a key triumph in the race to qualify for the African Cup of the category. Trying to play as far as possible from his goal, the ball went to the feet of Morice Abraham, the captain and figure of the locals.

Recumbent on the left wing of the attack, Abraham picked up the ball, saw a rival defender approaching him and stopped his career. Desperate to recover the ball, four Burundi men were on him. And it was there that no one imagined. When he noticed that he did not have much land, Abraham retraced his steps and bit the ball parallel to the line of lime. The idea was perfect. But he never counted on Assumani Bundengeri going to try to stop him like that. Bah, better said: with everything I could. That was how Bundengeri knocked him down with a strange flying kick, almost a shot of karate, around the neck. And not happy with that, while Abraham writhed in pain on the ground, he stomped on him and made him scream even more. Far from the play, both the referee and the Tanzanian man's teammates did not realize the seriousness of what had happened. Only the members of the bank of substitutes, located in a privileged position, saw the entire sequence and ended up holding their heads. Although the meeting did not define anything, the images went around the world in a matter of seconds. And it was not for less. You will see the complete sequence:

The match between the kids of Tanzania and Burundio had been played with clenched teeth.
