The Viennese clubs won gold and silver at the Bundesliga Final Four in Gmunden! While the women from Vienna Samurai / WAT Stadlau had to admit defeat to UJZ Mühlviertel 2:5 in the final, but achieved more than their season goal with silver, the men from Allianz Kukla Galaxy Tigers won their eleventh title with 4:3 against LZ Multikraft Wels and drew level with record champions UJZ Mühlviertel. Only the last fight decided – champions thanks to the Moldovan legionnaire Denis Vieru!
Led by the undefeated until the final of the Bundesliga Jacqueline Springerwho fought a class higher (up to 52 kilos) and was known as “Mrs. Bundesliga 2024”, the Samurai and Stadlau girls went into a real frenzy and defeated their opponent Leibnitz, who had won 8::6 in the regular round, 5:1. Springer was against Sarah Strohmayer Surprisingly back with Waza-ari, but the Styrian was able to hold on. In the final, Springer, of all people, was the sticking point. The 24-year-old was defeated Katharina Mikota after 2:2 Shidos in the Golden Score with the third penalty. There too Kathi Fabian couldn’t win after that, after 2:1 it was suddenly 2:3. The preliminary decision.
The men’s competition started with the drawn class up to 66 kilos, where the Moldovan Olympic bronze medalist and former European champion Denis Vieru immediately made things clear and the Tigers then moved away to 3-0. Bernd Fasching (last year “Mr. Bundesliga”) defended himself against former European champions up to 90 kilos Marcus Nyman brave. The Swede ended his great judo career in Gmunden. Made the decisive fourth point Movli Borchashvilli in the heavyweight division against the Viennese Stephan Hegyiwho fought for Mühlviertel. Movli thus managed to take revenge for the defeat suffered in the final of the state championship against Hegyi, who lost after the third shido with Hansokumake (disqualification). “The final will be more difficult,” said the Galaxy coach Thomas Haasmann before the gold fight. He was proven right because after six fights the score was 3:3. As luck would have it, Vieru, Olympic bronze medalist in Paris and former European champion, had to fight the final, decisive fight. And the Moldovan was the expected bank. Ippon win against Thomas Haminger, so the eleventh title in 13 years was perfect for the Viennese.
The most successful judoka and officials of the year will also be honored in the supporting program. During carnival from Salzburg Andreas Tiefgraber as “Mr. Bundesliga” was replaced by another young Viennese athlete of the year: Vardges Ghazaryan from SU Karuna Vienna received this award. The 16-year-old was the only ÖJV athlete to qualify for the Cadet World Championships in Lima (Peru). Austria’s successful veterans were also honored – with samurai judoka Ernst Leidenfrostwho won bronze at the “Oldies World Championships” in Las Vegas. And finally there were surprise honors for two Viennese: Corina Kornergeneral secretary in the ÖJV, and Markus Moserwho was awarded the 3rd Dan.
