The Montreal Alouettes could play in the Eastern final without their star receiver Austin Mack on Saturday against the Toronto Argonauts at Percival-Molson Stadium.
In the lineup released to the media Friday, Mack’s name appears on the starting lineup, but the letters GTD (for game time decision) are also there, a sign that a decision will only be made during the pre-match warm-up in his case.
This is a significant loss for the offense of Jason Maas and Anthony Calvillo, although the Alouettes played most of the season without the star American receiver.
After a breakout freshman season, in which he caught 78 passes for 1,154 yards and 4 touchdowns, Mack received a call from the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. But he was unable to carve out a place in the Georgia squad, so in August he returned to Montreal.
However, his return only lasted one game, against Edmonton on August 25. The receiver injured his ankle in practice the following week, an injury that kept him sidelined for six weeks.
Mack has only played three games this season. He caught 10 passes for 145 yards.
If he is unable to play the game, the kickoff of which is scheduled for 3 p.m., James Letcher Jr. will take his place as starter. Letcher was added to the lineup as a backup.
After missing the last game, offensive lineman Jamar McGloster is back, as is Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund. Kristian Matte, confined to the sidelines by injuries most of the season, is also on Jason Maas’ list.
The Argos earned their spot in the Eastern final by defeating the Ottawa Rouge et Noir 58-38 last week. The winner of this duel will travel to Vancouver for the 111th Gray Cup, against the winner of the game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
