[Reuters]- Men’s tennis player Novak Djokovic (Serbia) spoke on the 29th about how he came to the decision to add fellow former world number one Andy Murray (Great Britain) to his coaching team.
Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, agreed to join the team last week. In preparation for next year’s Australian Open, he will be coaching Djokovic, who has the most wins in four major tournaments with 24 wins.
Djokovic, who terminated his contract with Croatian coach Goran Ivanisevic in March, told Sky Sports: “I have parted ways with a coach with whom I have had success for many years. “It took me about six months to think carefully about what kind of career I wanted,” he said, adding that he took his time to consider it.
He said he considered various options as a candidate, saying, “The best coach at this point is someone who has had the same experience as me, someone who has won multiple Grand Slam tournaments and is ranked number one in the world.” We came to the conclusion that it was probably a person.”
Djokovic said that it was difficult to meet those conditions, but said, “While I was thinking about things, the topic of Marie came up within the team, and I decided to give her a call,” adding, “I was a little surprised because even he hadn’t expected it.” We got in touch right away, and he agreed a few days later.”
Regarding the new collaboration between people who know the scenery at the top, he said, “I couldn’t be more excited. This collaboration is a surprise for me and for everyone. He’s one of my biggest rivals. We’re the same age. “I’ve played against him at all of the highest levels in the tennis world,” he said, expressing high expectations.
