29-year-old Jang Soo-jeong failed to advance to the final of the 2025 Australian Open women’s singles wild card match held at the Sichuan Tennis Court in Chengdu, China.
Jang Soo-jeong suffered a disappointing 1-2 loss to China’s Guo Hanyu in the match that started at noon on November 29, Korean time.
Jang Soo-jeong, who had a record of losing 0-2 in the last tournament in China in 2019, got off to a shaky start by conceding the first service game of the first set, but when she was leading 2-4, she succeeded in breaking and started chasing 3-4, and continued to win. A successful break resulted in a come-from-behind victory of 6-4.
In the second set, Sujeong Jang trailed to 3-3 after breaking the first service game, but was pushed back in the second half and lost the set at 4-6.
In the final third set, a fierce battle continued until the score was 5-5, and at 5-6, Jang Soo-jeong was unable to save the last service game, and the match ended at 5-7.
Hyeon Jeong and Sujeong Jang participated in this wild card tournament, but both were eliminated and failed to secure tickets to the men’s and women’s singles finals for the 2025 Australian Open.
