Although Lattimore is a great player and under contract through 2026, the Saints should consider trading him to gain salary cap relief and add draft capital for their impending rebuild. “The 2-6 Saints are reeling and face a dire situation in 2025,” B/R’s Kristopher Knox wrote. “Next offseason, New Orleans is projected to be $72.6 million over the salary cap. Trading Lattimore now would save $10.8 million in cap space for 2025 while also netting the Saints valuable draft capital.
“Lattimore is dealing with a hamstring injury but has allowed an opposing passer rating of just 68.5 in coverage this season. He is a premium player at a critical position and should provide a premium return.

New Orleans might need some safety help now, and Tyrann Mathieu is a potential cap casualty, as removing him with a designation after June 1 would save the organization $6.25 million. dollars, according to Over The Cap. So, the front office will likely look for one or two young safety players this offseason.
Moehrig, who turns just 26 in June, has a decent coverage record with five career interceptions and 23 passes defensed heading into this weekend. He’s also shown plenty of growth against the run in 2024, owning the ninth-best run defense grade (81.0) among Pro Football Focus safeties through Week 8.
