NBA: Next win for Schröder – da Silva convinces

Basketball world champion Dennis Schröder and his Brooklyn Nets have celebrated their next success in the NBA. The team from New York City won at home against the Chicago Bulls 120:112. This time, after recent strong performances, Schröder fell short of his potential and only scored nine points due to a weak hit rate, but gave seven assists. For the Nets it was the second win in a row and the third in the last four games. The best thrower at Brooklyn was Cam Thomas with 32 points.

Meanwhile, without their injured top star Paolo Banchero, the Orlando Magic suffered a defeat around the two world champions Franz and Moritz Wagner as well as first-round pick Tristan da Silva. Orlando lost 109:120 to the Cleveland Cavaliers, who had started the season strongly. In the absence of Banchero, who will be out for a few weeks with a torn abdominal muscle, Jalen Suggs became the Magic’s best player with 28 points.

Franz Wagner struggled and only converted 8 of his 19 throws from the field and only one of his three free throws. In the end, the 23-year-old had 17 points. Brother Moritz got 14 points. Da Silva delivered his best game in the NBA to date: The Munich native, who was selected 18th by Orlando in the last draft, scored 17 points as a bench player.

Meanwhile, the other two German NBA professionals Daniel Theis and Ariel Hukporti had reason to be happy. World champion Theis celebrated a 125:118 win against the Indiana Pacers with the New Orleans Pelicans. The center came off the bench and contributed three points and a strong five rebounds in 13 minutes of playing time. NBA newcomer Hukporti continues to collect his first playing time with the New York Knicks, playing five minutes in the 128:98 away win against the Detroit Pistons.

Reus and Galaxy reach MLS playoff quarterfinals

Former national soccer player Marco Reus can still hope for his first title with his new club Los Angeles Galaxy. In the first round of the MLS playoffs, the record champions from California clearly won 4-1 against the Colorado Rapids. Reus came on as a substitute in the 65th minute. Galaxy had already won the first duel 5-0 in their own stadium, meaning the third game of the best-of-three series is no longer necessary.

Midfielder Riqui Puig was once again the outstanding player for Los Angeles. The former FC Barcelona professional scored twice, as he did in the first game against Colorado. Reus didn’t play a goal after being substituted on. Galaxy will face the winner of the match between Real Salt Lake and Minnesota United in the playoff quarterfinals. From the quarter-finals onwards, each duel will only be decided in a single game.

Long-time Dortmund player Marco Reus moved to the USA after his contract with BVB ended last summer. The 35-year-old’s contract runs until the end of 2026.

NHL professional Stützle despairs of Shestjorkin: “Unbelievable”

Three days after his four-point gala against the St. Louis Blues, national player Tim Stützle despaired at the goalie in the NHL professional ice hockey league and came away empty-handed. In his Ottawa Senators’ 1:2 defeat at the New York Rangers, the striker remained without a scorer; for the Canadians it was the fifth defeat in the tenth game of the season.

Rangers goalkeeper Igor Shestjorkin stopped 40 shots, including four from Stützle. After goals from Artemi Panarin (4th) and Alexis Lafreniere (43rd), Ottawa was only able to reduce the deficit through Adam Gaudette (53rd) in front of 18,000 fans at Madison Square Garden. Stützle recorded two goals and two assists in an 8-1 win over the Blues on Wednesday night.

“I really don’t know what to say, their goalkeeper played incredibly,” said Stützle: “You have to give him credit. He kept them in the game. When you have 20 more shots on goal than a team like that, you know you played a pretty good game.” The shot balance was 41:18 in favor of the Senators.

John-Jason Peterka and the Buffalo Sabers lost out against the New York Islanders, local rivals of the Rangers. At 3:4, the German striker remained without a point. For the Sabers it was the seventh loss in the eleventh game.
