+++ November 11, 2024, 7:45 a.m.: Nets trio around Schröder probably sought after +++

A trio from the Brooklyn Nets is probably being closely monitored by many NBA teams. As NBA insider Marc Stein reports, various franchises assume that Dennis Schröder, Dorian Finney-Smith and Bojan Bogdanovic are concrete trade candidates by the February deadline.

“Dennis Schröder, Dorian Finney-Smith and Bojan Bogdanovic are all solid veterans with salaries under $20 million who are frequently mentioned by contending teams as players they expect to be traded by February 6,” reports Stone.

Schröder, in his 11th year in the NBA and his second year with Brooklyn, is averaging 20.1 points, 6.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game, continuing to be a solid backcourt option.

While Finney-Smith also got off to a decent start to the season, Bogdanovic is still recovering from a serious foot injury that forced him to end last season early.

+++ October 23, 2024, 7:22 p.m.: New contract for Timberwolves star Rudy Gobert +++

Rudy Gobert and the Minnesota Timberwolves have apparently agreed to a contract extension. As NBA insider Shams Charania reports, the French center has signed a new three-year contract worth $110 million.

Gobert could have picked up a player option for the 2024-25 season to remain in Minnesota for another year at a salary of $46.6 million. However, the center rejected this in order to sign the new, multi-year deal at a lower salary.

“I’m happy here. My family is happy here. I want to win a title here, and my contract for next year was very high,” explained the 32-year-old after the opening defeat against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Gobert moved from the Utah Jazz to the Timberwolves in 2022 and made it to the Western Conference Finals with the team last season. In 2023, the Frenchman was also named Defensive Player of the Year for the fourth time in his career – an NBA record.

+++ October 22, 2024, 11:32 a.m.: NBA quartet signs new mega contracts +++

One day before the start of the season, lucrative contract extensions are raining in the NBA. In addition to the double blow from the Houston Rockets (see 8:10 a.m.), four other professionals remain loyal to their franchises, according to consistent media reports.

The Denver Nuggets were able to agree on a collaboration with veteran Aaron Gordon until 2029 plus a player option. For the three additional years, the 29-year-old power forward will reportedly receive the equivalent of almost 103 million euros.

The remaining deals, however, concern younger players. Trey Murphy III can apparently look forward to four more seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans. According to reports, number 25 receives only a slightly higher sum than Gordon, despite the longer term.

The working papers of Jalen Johnson (Atlanta Hawks) and Wagner teammate Jalen Suggs (Orlando Magic) will now be valid for a full five seasons longer than before. In return, around 139 million euros will probably flow into the accounts of the NBA players.

+++ October 22, 2024, 8:10 a.m.: Houston extends long-term with Alperen Sengun +++

The Houston Rockets have committed to two rookies long-term. After the extension with Jalen Green worth the equivalent of 98 million euros, center talent Alperen Sengun will also continue to play for the franchise. According to “ESPN”, this was revealed by the consulting duo around Sean Kennedy and Jeff Schwartz.

Apparently it is a five-year contract with a so-called “player option”, i.e. the possibility of adding another season. This would make Sengun the first player since Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic and Hawks playmaker Trae Young to sign such a deal.

The Rockets will probably dig deep into their pockets for their Turkish national player: According to the report, Sengun will pocket a good 170 million euros. Last season, the 22-year-old shone with over 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists on average – only five other NBA players could also claim that.

+++ October 19, 2024, 6:39 p.m.: Grayson Murphy makes the jump from Dresden to the NBA +++

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Grayson Murphy. After a season with the second division Dresden Titans, the guard is moving to the best basketball league in the world. Murphy was already used for the purple and gold during the Summer League.

In the German ProA last season, the 25-year-old was able to impress with, among other things, an average of 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds. In total, he contributed at least 20 points in four games and even achieved a double-double five times.

Murphy has now signed a non-guaranteed one-year contract with the NBA franchise. The minimum salary for this type of contract is the equivalent of 1.07 million euros.

Before his first station in Germany, the American spent five years at Belmont College in Tennessee. In California he will wear shirt number 40 in the future. Next Wednesday, the Lakers will meet the Minnesota Timberwolves at the start of the season (from 4 a.m. in the ran live ticker).

+++ October 8, 2024, 10:45 a.m.: Wendell Carter Jr. extends with the Orlando Magic +++

Payday for a teammate of the Wagner brothers and Tristan da Silva! According to consistent media reports, the Orlando Magic have agreed to a new three-year contract with Wendell Carter Jr. with a total value of 60 million euros.

The center has repeatedly struggled with injuries over the last two years, but when he was fit he was set as a starter. Last season he played 55 games and averaged eleven points and seven rebounds in around 26 minutes per game.

This extension could particularly be influenced by Moritz Wagner, who is mostly used as a center in the NBA. The team seems to continue to rely on Carter Jr. as a starter, leaving the German only in the backup role.

Carter Jr. was originally drafted by the Chicago Bulls with pick number 7 in 2018. In 2021, the Magic secured the services of the now 25-year-old as part of the Nikola Vucevic trade.

+++ October 6, 2024, 9:41 p.m.: PJ Tucker dissatisfied with the LA Clippers – agreement sought +++

According to NBA insider “Shams Charania”, PJ Tucker will not be taking part in the Los Angeles Clippers’ preseason at the moment, the power forward is extremely dissatisfied in the City of Angels – a trade is considered likely.

An agreement is being sought for both parties, said Charania. “PJ is a professional who has achieved much in his career and wants to achieve even more,” the Clippers said in a statement on Sunday. “We will continue to work with PJ and his representative to find the best solution for him.”

Back in February of this year, there were rumors about Tucker, who was looking for a trade due to his limited playing time with the Clippers. The 39-year-old ultimately stayed, despite flirtations with the Los Angeles Lakers and his former club Miami Heat.

Tucker came to LA as part of the James Harden trade. Last season, Tucker made 28 appearances for his Clippers with a meager 1.6 points per game.

+++ September 28, 2024, 8:40 a.m.: Timberwolves trade Superstar Towns to New York +++

Surprising trade in the NBA! The New York Knicks have secured the services of four-time All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns, The Athletic reports. In return, his previous team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, will receive forward Julius Randle and guard Donte DiVincenzo. In addition, the Timberwolves will receive a top-13 protected first-round pick for 2025 from the Knicks.

The Charlotte Hornets also receive draft compensation.

Big man Towns was drafted first overall by the Timberwolves in 2015 and spent his entire nine-year NBA career with the team. With the trade he returns to his former coach Tom Thibodeau.

According to a league source, the 28-year-old was “stunned” by the trade since he saw himself as part of the future planning in Minnesota. In any case, he appears speechless in a tweet.

+++ September 23, 2024, 8:49 p.m.: Grizzlies release ex-MVP Derrick Rose +++

Former NBA MVP Derrick Rose has been released by the Memphis Grizzlies, NBA insider Shams Charania reports. Rose played in 24 games for the Grizzlies during the 2023-24 NBA season, averaging 8 points, 3.3 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game.

According to the report, the point guard was released by the Grizzlies at his request. His two-year contract with a total volume of $6.6 million would have run for one more season. The 35-year-old Rose, whose NBA career has been set back by serious injuries, was considering retirement in 2023 before signing with Memphis.

It is still unclear whether Rose will find a place with a new team again or end his career.
