Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees were the last winners of the Most Valuable Player Awardthe Major League Player of the Year award baseball.
Both Ohtani and Judge were crowned by a unanimous vote of all 30 voters in the National League and American League, respectively.
Ohtani received his third MVP after winning it in 2021 and 2023 with the Los Angeles Angels, all three unanimously. He remains the only player to have won more than one MVP Award by unanimous vote. In his first year with the Dodgers, in 2024, he became the first player in sports history to hit 50 or more home runs (54) and steal 50 bases (59) in the same season.
Thanks to this victory he became the second player to win the MVP in both leagues after Frank Robinson (1961, 1966) and the first full-time designated hitter to win MVP.
Judge – who faced Ohtani and the Dodgers in the World Series in a losing cause – was named his league’s MVP for the second time in three years. He batted .322 with 58 home runs, 144 RBI, 122 runs scored and an OPS of 1.159.
The Baseball Writers’ Association of America has voted for the MVP of each league since 1931. The ballots are submitted before the postseason and are based on a weighted points system.
