Action against Tatum resulted in disqualification
“Like football”: Brown criticizes former teammates after a violent foul
Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has clear words for his former teammate Grant Williams. He caused a stir in the game against the Charlotte Hornets with a risky foul on Jayson Tatum.
After the Celtics’ 124-109 win, Brown asked reporters, “Did you see what I saw? He hit it like we were at football. Like Ray Lewis coming over the middle or something.”
“I thought JT and Grant were friends” – Williams comments
The controversial foul occurred midway through the fourth quarter when Williams knocked down Tatum at the halfway line during a fast break. The result was a flagrant foul of the second category, which promptly earned Williams disqualification. For Brown, there is “no place in the NBA” for such behavior. He was also surprised at the relationship between the two players, noting, “I thought JT and Grant were friends. Probably not.”
Williams, on the other hand, defended himself by explaining that it was a hard but unintentional foul: “I’m not trying to hurt anyone. We all know that JT is one of my closest friends in the league,” he emphasized NBC Sports Boston. Tatum himself did not want to comment on the incident.
After four seasons together, Tatum and Williams’ relationship is strong, and both have often been seen laughing during warmups. Still, Williams’ recent action has raised Brown’s ire. “I don’t know what that was about. I think that speaks for itself. I don’t know if Grant missed JT. I don’t know what that was. That just wasn’t basketball. Grant knows better,” posed Brown concluded and made it clear: “Actions speak louder. It is what it is. We won, we’ll move on.”
