Governor delivered the Risaralda flag to athletes from the National Youth Games

  • 252 Rizaldense athletes, in 31 disciplines, will meet in this event that will last until November 28.

Pereira, November 7, 2024. In an emotional event full of color and flavor, the governor of Risaralda, Juan Diego Patiño Ochoa, presented the flag of the Department to the 252 athletes who starting this Saturday will represent Risaralda in the National Youth Games, based in the Coffee Axis.

During the event that was held at the Pereira Commerce Club, the leader of the Risraldenses expressed his satisfaction at being met with the youth athletes and para-athletes, who have already formed the sports reserve, with a view to the National Senior Games, that will take place in 2027.

“Today history is being made in the country’s sports, it has not been an easy process, but I want to give a very special thank you to the Minister of Sports because, thanks to her, the Games are a reality. To you athletes and para-athletes, I can only thank you, you are the sports reserve of Risaralda”, said Patiño Ochoa.

In his speech, the governor announced that those who obtain medals for Risaralda will obtain economic incentives and will also be part of the Supported Athlete program in 2025

Those in charge of receiving the departmental pavilion were: the cyclist Johan Steven Gómez and the boxer Yabián Zúñiga; Maria Camila Restrepo, from judo, and David Soto, from para-swimming, who, on behalf of all the athletes, swore to leave everything on the competition field to wave the green and white colors at the top of the podium.

“I feel very proud to have received the flag of my Department; “a very big commitment that we must respect, and have the determination possible to obtain the gold medal, which is my goal on this occasion,” expressed the boxer Yabián Zúñiga

For his part, David Soto, one of the promises of paraswimming in Colombia, and who is one of those chosen to get a gold medal, stated that he has prepared himself in the best way to face these competitions, where he will face what most successful of this discipline in the country

“I feel great joy, first because we are representing our Department, and second, we are at home. The truth is that we are the kings of youth paraswimming, because throughout the year we have been leading in the tests. “I hope to confirm the favoritism, getting the gold medal,” Soto concluded.

The event also served to publicize the sports clothing, both for presentation and competition, that the athletes, coaches and delegates will wear during the Sports Fairs that will have their inauguration this November 9 at the Hernán Ramírez Villegas stadium, starting at 6 :00 in the afternoon.
