Basketball D-2: the Filons lose for the first time this season

Hockey and basketball were in the spotlight this past weekend as the six Filons du Cégep de Thetford teams were in action.

Hockey D-1

For a second weekend in a row, the Filons played two games on the road. After the air of Outaouais which smiled on them last week, it was that of Saguenay which benefited the Thetfordois who won 4 to 3 in overtime against the Jeannois d’Alma. It was Ralph Gagnon’s second goal of the match which gave his team the victory, the other two goals being scored by Édouard Parent.

The Thetford offensive was, however, kept silent on Sunday in a 2-0 defeat against the Dynamiques du Cégep de Sainte-Foy. This setback thus put an end to a happy streak of three consecutive victories for the Filons who will finally return to their home ground after three weeks of absence.

Hockey D-2

With only one game on their schedule during the weekend, the Filons took the opportunity to record a second victory in a row by defeating the Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy 4 to 2. At the same time, Toby’s troop Lafrance climbed to third place in the ranking ahead of these same Dynamiques. Four different scorers hit the target for the Filons, namely Charles-Antoine Tremblay, Émerick Boucher, Mathis Vachon and Abraham Fecteau.

Women’s hockey

Playing a third consecutive match against the Rimouski Pionnières with whom they had shared the honors of a doubleheader the previous week, the Filons from the Center d’études scolaire de Lotbinière and the Cégep de Thetford lost 3 to 1. Two goals visitors in the third period when the score was tied made the difference. Charlotte Corbeil was the only scorer for the Filons.

After defeating the leaders in the standings a few weeks ago, the Filons once again proved that they could compete with all teams by defeating the Trois-Rivières Diablos, at their home, by a score of 2 to 1 in shootouts. The Diablos had only suffered two defeats before this meeting. Charlotte Corbeil scored the only goal for Filons in regular time before seeing Esther Marcoux settle the debate during the fifth round of the shootout.

Basketball D-1

Holders of a record of two victories and as many losses, the Filons were the hosts of the Dynamiques du Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, authors of an identical record. The two teams shared good momentum at the start of the match, but the Dynamiques gained the upper hand as the match progressed to finally win 80 to 59.

Basketball D-2

The only two teams undefeated since the start of the season faced each other while the Filons hosted the Jeannois d’Alma. Unfortunately for the Thetford team, a difficult third quarter paved the way for a 68-60 victory for the Jeannois. Leading at the end of the first half, the Filons were dominated 26-9 in the third quarter to suffer their first defeat of the calendar. Romain Gallard and Abderrahim Alaphilippe were the best for Filons in attack with 18 and 11 points respectively

Women’s basketball

The Cougars from Cégep de Chicoutimi were in Thetford for the Filons’ only match of the weekend and the visitors left with a 59-57 victory. It was a heartbreaking defeat for the Filons who were leading at mid -time and until the very end of the match before the Cougars’ decisive comeback. According to coach Dave Laroche, it is a lack of experience due to the youth of the team which explains the comeback suffered by his club.
