The 2024 edition of the <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2024/11/barbastro-will-become-the-capital-of-training-judo-between-november-15-and-17/" title="Barbastro will become the capital of training Judo between November 15 and 17″>Spanish Children’s and Cadet Judo A Cup, which Barbastro will host from November 15 to 17, will convert the city into the Spanish capital of training judo for the third consecutive year and will also generate a positive economic impact on commerce and the local hospitality industry that can reach around 400,000 euros thanks to the 1,200 accredited judokas, 150 coaches and 70 members of the Federation staff who will come to the city along with numerous family members. In fact, it is estimated (based on figures from past editions) that around 4,000 people linked in one way or another to the competition will visit the city during those three days. For each of them, an average expense of 100 euros is calculated.
“We are already working to make the Cup a success for the third year. The Federation already has 1,200 athletes accredited. The majority are Spanish, but we will also have the Andorra national team and judokas from French clubs. A delegation of Valencian athletes will also compete, who make a great effort not to miss this event. Of course, for us it is an honor to have each and every one of the athletes who are going to compete in Barbastro these days, but the meaning that the presence of Valencian judokas acquires is special. Everyone is going to have our applause, but the one we will direct to them will be, if possible, more intense,” explains Francisco Albert, the Sports Councilor.
Program
The Spanish Judo A Cup starts on the 15th with a Master Class in which schools from Barbastro will participate and which will be directed by a Barbastro judoka with a scholarship from the Blume Residence and the CAR Madrid Moussa Macalou. Then, on Saturday the 16th, the competitions will begin. First, it will be the turn of the cadet category judokas, who will compete in their Spanish Cup on the morning of the 16th and, on the 17th, that of the children’s judokas, who will compete in the Cup of their category during that day. On the afternoon of the 16th, the Absolute North Sector Championship will be held. “It’s going to be a spectacle, just like in previous editions. For three days, we will be the capital of training judo. It is an excellent opportunity for Barbastro to reaffirm itself as the welcoming city that it is and as an ideal location for major sporting events,” explains the Mayor, Fernando Torres. In the Absolute North Sector Spanish Championship, a hundred of the best Spanish judokas from the aforementioned area compete to qualify for the Spanish Championship, adding to the 1,200 accredited judokas.
