For a ninth consecutive year, the annual badminton tournament for the six elementary schools of the Viamonde School Board of London, Sarnia and Windsor took place on March 6 in the gymnasium of Lamothe-Cadillac High School.
Each of the teams from La Pommeraie, La Tamise, Marie-Curie, Les Rapides, L’Envolée and Louise-Charron elementary schools was made up of 20 players of 5e et 6e years for a total of 120 participants. They competed against each other in singles and doubles competition. The referees were students from the Lamothe-Cadillac school.
As for the Louise-Charron school in Windsor, two girls and four boys played in the singles category, as well as seven teams who competed in the doubles category.
“Badminton is a sport where there is a lot of respect for the opponent. It is also a sport based more on strategy than physical performance. Many players did not necessarily know this sport before starting the year, but their curiosity and motivation brought them to where they are today. I want to highlight their journey, their endurance and their determination. We are proud of them,” comments Serge Ngueho, teacher and coach at Louise-Charron.
For the awards ceremony, students receiving first, second or third place received a medal. The total points of each student allowed the final ranking of the schools, the first three of which received banners of honor.
On the girls’ side, a student obtained second place in the singles category and a team doubled third place. On the boys’ side, two teams won gold and silver in the doubles category. The total number of points gives the Louise-Charron school the banner of first place in the ranking for the 2024 badminton tournament, ahead of the La Pommeraie de London and Les Rapides de Sarnia schools.
Congratulations everyone!
