Romain Le Roux, from Moulins, is the world number 3 in heavyweight mechanics. A prize that he has just won at the Worldskills global skills competition.
Barely returned from the 47th edition of the Worldskills global trade competition in Lyon (Rhône), the manual trades Olympics which took place from September 10 to 15, Romain Le Roux returned to work at Faurie Trucks in Avermes, with his title of third in the world, in heavyweight mechanics.

Intense preparation
In January 2023, he took part in the regional trade competition, on the advice of a teacher. “I told myself that I had nothing to lose. » And even everything to gain since he qualifies for the national and even ultimately world competition. After four days of electrical diagram tests, mechanics and work on trucks, from diagnosis to repair, he savored his victory.
It must be said that he did not skimp on the preparation. For this world competition, he had three weeks of physical and mental preparation. “I do a lot of judo, it helped me. Because I know how I react to stress, I eat a lot of sugar and I’m hyperactive, I talk to everyone. In judo, when you have missed a fight, you must stop thinking about it and be ready for the next one. »

He had five weeks of technical preparation with competition experts, Nicolas Dron, world expert, Christophe Tardy, France expert and Jacques Vergnes, Europe expert. But also English lessons, because everything is in English, it is forbidden to speak in French and you have to be able to make yourself understood. “I was afraid of missing something, because I had misunderstood or didn’t make myself understood. So I took additional lessons. And I worked, in particular, on technical vocabulary. I also had two weeks of preparation in the Renault Trucks training center.” Since January, Romain Le Roux has not seen much of his loved ones, but they have supported him.

Create vocations
By participating in this competition, he wanted to “show the beauty of my profession, which is less attractive to young people who are more passionate about automobile mechanics, to break down stereotypes and above all to create vocations, because the sector lacks manpower. . The move towards electric technology opens up new avenues and makes this profession even more exciting. » And as a result, it was “an extraordinary experience. I met some great people. I kept contacts on a global level. It’s also a network that we’re building.”
