Bundesliga football club Borussia Dortmund has another German international player in its sights. After Waldemar Anton, Pascal Groß is now also set to move to BVB.

Borussia Dortmund is interested in signing another German national player. Information from Sportschau coincides with a report published by “sky” on Saturday (July 6, 2024) that the Bundesliga club has reached an agreement with Pascal Groß. However, negotiations still have to be held with his club Brighton & Hove Albion from the English Premier League over a transfer fee, which is expected to be in the low double-digit million range at most.

Dortmund have already reached an agreement with central defender Waldemar Anton from VfB Stuttgart, who is to be signed for a fixed fee of around 22 million euros. However, the transfer has not yet been officially announced.

The 33-year-old Groß was first called up to the national team under national coach Hansi Flick and made his debut in the team’s last game against Japan (1:4) in September 2023. He has now made eight international appearances. At EURO 2024, he only played in the opening game of the 5:1 win against Scotland, when he came on as a substitute in the second half.

Groß would meet DFB colleagues

The current national coach Julian Nagelsmann said on Saturday at a final press conference in Herzogenaurach that he would continue to rely on Pascal Groß, who could then take over Toni Kroos’ role as a strategist in the defensive midfield.

Should the move to Borussia Dortmund go through, Groß would find several colleagues from the national team behind and next to him.

Anton and Nico Schlotterbeck, who each made two appearances at the European Championships, are considered a future duo in central defence. Dortmund captain Emre Can was even in the starting eleven in the quarter-final against Spain, but was substituted at half-time. Can is usually used as one of two “sixes” at BVB.
