Xuefei Qi’s Close Loss Against Japanese Opponent: A Lesson in Adaptation and Preparation

Friday afternoon, Xuefei QI lost in three very close sets (22-24, 21-19 and 22-24) against the Japanese Shiori Ebihara after a match which lasted 75 minutes . An enormous length, a meeting lasting on average 45 minutes.

The Rostrenoise led well in the three sets and each time, the Japanese came back and twice, she snatched victory. This feat by the little-known 26-year-old Japanese woman undoubtedly deprived Xuefei of a semi-final, or even a final.

A little disappointed after a meeting within her reach, the Rostrenoise was however happy to feel physically fit while her opponent finished exhausted. As the Paris 2024 Olympics approach, many players do not want to play tournaments for fear of injury. It also remains to analyze the tactical and technical aspects of the lost encounter.

Ultimately, Xuefei was bothered by Asians’ different adaptation to the short game and the long game. I have to prepare myself to feel good in my body, while being careful not to hurt myself. It’s my obsession. On the other hand, I will train with foreigners from the top of the world table: a Brazilian and Carolina Marin, a Spaniard, 2024 European champion and 3 times world champion and gold medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016 .
