The spectacle of the grand finals, live today at Climbing Madrid

Watching professional climbers ascend a wall of Difficulty is, in itself, a spectacle: they move vertically as if they were salamanders. But, if you add the excitement of the competition, of seeing how they try to outdo each other by performing almost impossible movements, you have the necessary ingredients to make the experience extraordinary. And this is precisely what Climbing Madrid, the great climbing festival, offers for today, Saturday, June 15.

The highlight of this day are the finals of the Madrid and Spanish Championships, which both take place on the demanding Difficulty wall, a wall 15 meters high and with challenging shapes that seems designed to not be able to be climbed. And all categories participate in it, from the absolute to the youth (U15, U16 and U18), thus adding the extra of being able to compare the competition of each group.

Youthful and absolute

The different competitions cover the entire day, although they are interspersed with many other proposals, such as concerts, exhibitions by the GERA (the Special High Altitude Rescue Group of Firefighters) and meetings with climbing stars and legends. And, furthermore, both the bars and the food trucks and the VIP Zone will operate at full capacity for the entire day.

At 9:30 a.m., the final of the U14 category opens the tournament; at 12:30 p.m. it is time for the climbers Sub16 and, at 2 p.m., that of the Sub18. The absolute professionals, for their part, the total climbers by technique and experience, face each other at 8:30 p.m. in the same Difficulty wall.

The awards ceremony will take place at 10:05 p.m. on the main stage, and will determine who will be, within each category, the new leaders of Difficulty Climbing in both Madrid and Spain.

The soundtrack of climbing

DJ Abel The Kid, a true reference of the most renowned electronic sound, will open the musical agenda with a session from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Abel The Kid is one of the most important DJs and producers of dance music in Spain. He was a resident of the Fabrik club in Madrid for 8 years and was also a regular guest at the most important clubs in Ibiza, such as Privilege, Ushuaia, Pacha and Arkadia Miami.

In addition, another great DJ will join the party, Neus Gonzalez, television presenter and Announcer in the 40s Urban, who has played in venues such as Apolo in Barcelona, ​​Camp Nou, and at well-known parties such as ChocoChuros or Maraca. She will be on the dishes from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

We continue with the exhibition of the GERA, the Special High Height Rescue Group of the Fire Department of the Community of Madrid, which has three parts: at 4:30 p.m., they will carry out maneuvers on the Difficulty Wall; At 5:35 p.m. we will see how this special group works and, at 6:15 p.m., their performance will conclude with a zip line descent.

And, in between, why not go to the food truck area and bars for a drink? Drink, food, a relaxing moment, regaining strength… anything can be. Water, soft drinks, beer; burgers, dogs, waffles. Another unique opportunity that can only be enjoyed at Climbing Madrid: meet, through meetings, dialogues and presentations, some of the biggest stars and legends of climbing, both national and international. And look how level it is.

Carlos Suarez, climber, mountaineer, base jumper, lecturer and even writer, one of the great national icons, acts as master of ceremonies and interviewer. At 5:30 p.m. he will welcome and, at 5:50 p.m., he will talk with Geila Maciàcalled to be the next climbing queen, about how the sport can help prevent bullying and anorexia.

At 6:15 p.m., he meets with a true international legend, Chris Sharmathe dominator of the almost impossible rock routes, a Californian based in Catalonia, to present the High Altitude Conversations section and, at 6:30 p.m., he talks with the great Shauna CoxseyBritish, champion of the 2016 and 2017 Bouldering World Cup (Boulder wall or bouldering).
