Lionel Messi Eyes Inter Miami as Final Club: Will Extend Career Beyond Expectations

Lionel Messi explained on Wednesday that he hoped to finish his career at Inter Miami, without giving a precise deadline. “Yes, today I think it will be my last club,” replied Messi during an interview which is to be broadcast on Wednesday on ESPN. Messi, who will celebrate his 37th birthday on June 24, is expected with defending champion Argentina as the big star of the Copa America, which will take place from June 20 to July 14 in the United States. Unless there is a surprise, he will not end his career in his country.

“I am not ready to leave football,” added the eight-time Ballon d’Or, under contract with Miami until 2025, after joining Florida in July 2023 from PSG. “Leaving Europe to come here was a difficult step to take. But the fact of having been world champion helped me to see things differently,” said the winner of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, who has not ruled out defending his title in 2026 during the edition co-organized by the United States, Mexico and Canada.

“I’ve done this all my life. I love playing ball. I love training, everyday life, matches. The end of it all scares me a little.” So we might as well push it back a little longer, right?
