JJ Redick’s plan with the Lakers: New role for Anthony Davis

In the last two years, the Lakers only qualified for the playoffs via the play-in tournament. Nevertheless, it is “reasonable” to want to compete for the title next season, said Redick. “When I look at the current squad, we are not far from the caliber of a title team.” LeBron James should take even more three-pointers than before, while the offense should run more through big man Anthony Davis. “I talked to him about him becoming a kind of hub,” said Redick: “There are some centers in the NBA who do that, but I don’t think that [Davis] has been used in this way so far. This could bring out the maximum in his abilities.

However, James must first extend his contract with the Lakers. The 39-year-old has until June 29 to exercise his player option or become a free agent. According to ESPN, the team wants to offer him the maximum three-year contract allowed in order to keep him.

Either way, the joint podcast “Mind the Game”, which was only launched in March, is over for now. “I’m out of the content business for now – hopefully for a very long time,” said Redick. “No more podcasts… that’s it for me for now.”
