Italian Judo Team Shines with Nine Medals at European Championships in Sarajevo

Nine medals for Italy on the first day of the European Judo Championships Veterans 2024 a Sarajevo, which brought together 750 athletes from 35 nations. With the men’s classes M5-6-7-8-9 competing, Marco Gigli received a gold medal, four silver medals with Luca Spadini, Stefano Pressello, Fabio Santini and Fabio Acerbi and four bronze medals with Giuseppe Dolza , Andrea Giuseppe Leobono, Fabrizio Murroni and Giovanni Lucantoni with two fourth places for Giuliano Rossi and Giuliano Invernizzi.

This is the report from coaches Manuela Tadini and Giuseppe Macrì: “A splendid gold shines around the neck of Marco Gigli kg.73 M7, with 3 matches won peremptorily, demonstrating his superiority at European level and easily conquering the top step of the podium. Gigli’s comment: “I dedicate this gold to the entire master movement, in which I have always firmly believed, and which is continuously growing.”

Four heavy silver medals obtained by our Italian super team: Fabio Acerbi kg.81 M8, Fabio Santini kg.81 M7, Luca Spadini Kg.81 M6 and Stefano Pressello kg.90 M6 and four bronze medals: Giovanni Lucantoni Kg. 73 M9, Andrea Giuseppe Leobono kg.60 M6, Fabrizio Murroni kg.66 M6, Giuseppe Dolza kg.73 M5, in addition to the 3rd places of Giuliano Invernizzi kg.90 M9 and Giuliano Rossi kg.66 M8. There were also four fifth places: Antonio Alfidi 81 kg M8, Girolamo Altamore 66 kg M7, Luigi Drago 66 kg M6, Daniel Masin 90 kg M5. Seventh place for Antonio D’Arrigo Kg.73 M5 and Simone Stinca Kg.60 M5.
