Theo Hernández left the Wednesday training of Les Bleus early, according to reports in the French media. The lightning-fast wing defender of AC Milan is struggling with knee problems, which he suffered from the practice match against Canada (0-0). In the coming days it will become clear whether Hernández can recover in time.

In France they are quietly waiting to see whether Hernández will be fit in time for the first group match against Austria next Monday. National coach Didier Deschamps has two Real Madrid players in Ferland Mendy and Eduardo Camavinga who can play in the left back position.

Hernández’s knee will be tested several times this week, after which the medical staff will determine whether it is wise to continue with the left leg. France’s second group match is a spicy reunion for Hernández, which he would like to attend.

In eight days, on Friday June 21, the Netherlands and France will face each other in the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. Hernández, who is known for often steaming up, may face Dutch international Denzel Dumfries on ‘his’ left flank several times.

Dumfries (Inter) and Hernández (AC Milan) had clashed several times in the past during the heated Milan derby. The Rotterdam right back of the Nerazzurri went one step further during Inter’s title celebration by showing a banner of Hernández’s head on a leashed dog that was handed to him by a supporter.

The question remains whether Dumfries can count on a starting place in the Dutch team. His competitor, Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen), left an excellent impression during the last two practice victories.

The 26-year-old Hernández has been a France international since September 2021. The counter now stands at 27 international matches, in which he scored 2 goals and 8 assists. His two-year older brother Lucas, defender of Paris Saint-Germain, has already had to miss the European Championship due to a serious knee injury.
