Honoring Acts of Sacrifice: Italian Red Cross Awards Medal of Merit to Local Police Officers

As a sign of gratitude for having demonstrated a spirit of sacrifice and absolute self-sacrifice during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic emergency, declared by Resolution of the Council of Ministers of 31 January 2020 and published in the Official Journal no. 25 of 1 February 2020, also demonstrating high civic and moral conscience, in full adherence to the ideals and principles of the Red Cross Association”.

Italian Red Cross, the reasons for Merit

With this motivation, the Italian Red Cross awarded the “Il Tempo della Gentilezza” Medal of Merit in the bronze class to seven operators of the Local Police of the Province of Piacenza: the commissioner (now retired) Roberto Cravedi, the inspector Matteo Re, the superintendents Achille Antonelli, Giuseppe Illica Magrini and Riccardo Lattanzi and the chosen assistants Rocco Passoni and Claudio Rampini.

Italian Red Cross, recognition

The recognition, signed by the national president Rosario Maria Gianluca Valastro and the general secretary Cecilia Crescioli, delivered today morning – in the presence of the president of the Province Monica Patelli, the director of the local police of the Province of Piacenza Davide Marenghi and the commander of the local police of the Province of Piacenza, Luigi Rabuffi – by Giuseppe Colla, new president of the Provincial Committee of the Piacenza Red Cross, and by Alessandro Guidotti, president of the Piacenza Red Cross during the pandemic.

Italian Red Cross, the help provided during the pandemic

Guidotti explained that the CRI wanted to remember the help provided during the pandemic as “The Time of Kindness” because, although with different uniforms, even the Local Police of the Province – according to the same principles that lead the Red Cross to recognize in others the need for help – she spent herself to provide, precisely with kindness, help and assistance to others.

Colla praised the active and fruitful collaboration with the Local Police of the Province even in those extremely complex months during which, among many deliveries of medicines and food to the population, “to many people we seemed like angels”.

Commander Luigi Rabuffi

Luigi Rabuffi, current commander of the Local Police of the Province of Piacenza, recalled that “Even in the most acute phase of the pandemic, under the leadership of Commander Anna Olati, the Local Police of the Province of Piacenza continued to carry out – together with all the other police forces – intense external activity both from the point of view of controls routine both from the point of view of compliance with the regulations introduced during the lockdown period”.

A huge amount of work

It was an enormous and very valuable amount of work in terms of supporting people, because it led our operators – in many cases themselves affected by Covid – to contribute to alleviating worries and loneliness in our communities. In those very difficult months, marked by mourning and a sense of loss, the presence of the Local Police of the Province of Piacenza is even more deeply appreciated by the population, especially in rural areas and in the most difficult to reach areas of the territory, the heart of our activity”.

The President of the Patelli Province

Satisfaction also expressed by the president of the Province, Monica Patelli: “I am proud of the recognition of the Italian Red Cross to the operators of the Local Police of the Province of Piacenza. This is a significant confirmation of the fact that even a numerically small Corps like ours can provide a contribution of great importance for the entire population of our territory”.
