There has been speculation for weeks about Andreas Wolff’s return to the Bundesliga. Now Kiel is said to have won the race for the national handball goalkeeper. However, confirmation is still lacking.

According to a media report, national handball goalkeeper Andreas Wolff is returning to German record champions THW Kiel. The NDR reported on Tuesday that the 33-year-old will leave the top Polish club Industria Kielce and return to the Bundesliga for the 2024/25 season. There was initially no statement from the club or the player.

Wolff, who became European champion with the national team in 2016 and won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, moved to Poland in 2019 after three years at THW. Wolff is actually still under contract in Kielce until 2028.

THW managing director Viktor Szilagyi confirmed talks with the world-class goalkeeper last week. “It has not escaped my notice that he would like to return to the Bundesliga,” Szilagyi said. If he moves, a transfer fee will be due for Wolff. In a conversation with the “Kieler Nachrichten” newspaper, the managing director denied that this would be in the seven-figure range. “The sums being circulated are nothing short of mythical,” the 45-year-old Austrian said.

The Kiel team, spoiled by success, only finished a disappointing fourth in the Bundesliga in the 2023/24 season. The previous goalkeeper duo of Czech Tomas Mrkva and Frenchman Samir Bellahcene were not always convincing. Spaniard Gonzalo Perez de Vargas will move to Kiel for the 2025/26 season.
