Gerhard Struber Completes Coaching Team at 1. FC Köln with Familiar Faces

Gerhard Struber has completed his coaching team at 1. FC Köln. The head coach is bringing two acquaintances to the Gamsstadt: Thomas Hickersberger and Bernd Eibler will act as Struber’s assistant coaches in the future.

Hickersberger, born in Germany and raised in Austria, was under contract with SK Rapid from 2011 to 2023, with a break in 2017 (SCR Altach), where he also worked as an assistant coach. In November 2021, Hickersberger was even interim head coach of the Hütteldorfer for three games.

Eibler knows Struber very well: the two have already worked together in New York and Salzburg. Most recently, Eibler moved to FC Liefering as assistant coach and is now following Struber to Germany.

Peter Greiber, who comes from VfL Bochum, will take over the position of goalkeeping coach in Cologne.

Cologne managing director Christian Keller says: “When recomposing our coaching team, it was important to us to find the right balance between technical expertise, strong characters and seniority. We are therefore very pleased that we were able to win Thomas Hickersberger, Bernd Eibler and Peter Greiber for the FC. All three come with the conviction and ambition to be able to increase the performance potential of our team together with the entire coaching team through systematic communication of our game idea and clear leadership.”

Struber and his team will appear in front of the team for the first time on Sunday. The new head coach will then be officially introduced at a press conference on Monday.
