Eva Lys Secures Sole German Victory at Wimbledon Qualifying Round in Roehampton

Eva Lys achieved the only German victory for a German player in the Wimbledon qualifying round in Roehampton.

Four German players have made the trip to Roehampton.

Eva Lys (130), the best-placed German in the Roehampton qualifier, faced the Cypriot Raluca Serban. And the Hamburg native left nothing to chance, winning 6:4 and 6:4.

Mona Barthel (WTA ranking 209) lost in three sets against Kamilla Rakhimova, who was ranked over 100 places higher. After a 2:6 in the first set, the Neumünster native won the second set clearly with 6:1. The final section was extremely close, with the Russian coming out on top.

In two sets, Ella Seidel (157) lost to Bulgarian Gergana Topalova (229) 5:7 and 4:6. The young German player was unable to take the lead throughout the match and instead had to play catch-up in both sets.

Noma Noha Akugue only holds one set with

Noma Noha Akugue (179) is another player from the DTB junior squad who failed in the opening round of the Wimbledon qualifiers. Last year’s finalist from Rothenbaum lost 5:7, 2:6 to Hailey Baptiste (98). The Hamburg native showed a particularly strong performance in the first set, but then lost her serve with the first break point of the match at 5:6.
