EURO | Danish footballers refused to improve conditions in the national team and helped women

Danish footballers have rejected the possibility of a salary increase in the new agreement. In addition, as part of the contract, they agreed to reduce the insurance payment by 15 percent, thereby enabling an increase in the coverage of female soccer players by 50 percent.

“This is an extraordinary step that will help improve the conditions of the women’s national teams,” said the head of the Danish players’ union, Michael Sahl Hansen, in a statement released by world players’ union FIFPRO. “Instead of looking for better conditions for themselves, they thought of supporting the women’s team,” he added.

EURO 2024 in Germany

The European Football Championship will take place in ten German cities from June 14 to July 14, 2024. The Czech national team under the leadership of new coach Ivan Hašek will also be present, in the basic group F the Czechs will face Portugal, Turkey and Georgia.

Among others, Christian Eriksen, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Simon Kjaer and Kasper Schmeichel participated in the negotiations on behalf of the players. “That’s how they wanted it. This shows how responsible they are. They liked the idea that they would also provide better opportunities and conditions to the next national team,” added Sahl Hansen.

The news also pleased female footballers, although they are not happy that men are being humiliated because of them. “They are happy that the men are helping them, but they agree that the money should have come directly from the union, not from the men’s team,” added Sahl Hansen.
