Zverev after the semi-final victory: “I can’t describe the feelings. I had some of my best and worst moments on this court. Now I’m in the final.” And he continued: “Last year I lost very easily, this year I lost the first set too. I knew I had to be more aggressive.”

In the first set, Ruud was clearly better, winning easily 6:2. In the second set, Zverev turned the tables, winning 6:2 to tie the set. In the third set, he then pulled away (6:4), before converting the first match point in the fourth set to make it 6:2.

One thing is clear: Zverev can become the first German Grand Slam winner since Boris Becker (56), who won the Australian Open in 1996. For the 2021 Olympic champion, it is the second Grand Slam final after the 2020 US Open. Back then, he lost to Austrian Dominic Thiem (30).

By the way: The last German French Open finalist was Michael Stich (55). In 1996, he lost in the final to the Russian Jevgeniy Kafelnikov.

In the other semi-final, Alcaraz won the duel between young tennis stars against Jannik Sinner (22) (2:6, 6:3, 3:6, 6:4, 6:3). The Spaniard is also in the final of the French Open for the first time.
