2nd Kettwig Sports Badge Day Draws 2,000 Participants for a Day of Athletic Fun

On Corpus Christi Thursday, May 30th, the Kettwiger Sportverein 70/86 eV and the Lauftreff Kettwig 2,000 invited people to the 2nd Kettwiger Sport Badge Day on the sports field on Ruhrtalstraße in Essen-Kettwig.

After the successful start in 2023, the number of participants was doubled to 90 active participants aged 6 – 72. As part of a kids’ course, the bear badge was also awarded to children under six. The participants came from Kettwig, Ratingen, Heiligenhaus and other parts of Essen.

The sports badge day began at 10:00 a.m. with registration and a joint warm-up. The first highlight was the first 3,000-meter run at 11:00 a.m. This was then offered every hour on the hour. This meant that participants could freely decide whether they wanted to complete this endurance discipline at the beginning or end of their test. Experience has shown that the technical disciplines such as long throw, long jump, shot put or rope skipping required a certain amount of stamina, also in terms of waiting times. The sprint disciplines were entertaining.

In the bright sunshine, the spectators also got their money’s worth and were able to happily follow the sporting action. At 3 p.m. it was all over. This also applied to the catering offered. Both the cake stand and the grill reported: sold out.

Both clubs – the KSV and the Lauftreff Kettwig – are positive about the success of the event. “Even if the awarding of the sports badge requires a certain level of basic fitness, this event is a successful format for giving people a low-threshold introduction to athletics,” says trainer Petra Kuß. “On site, many spectators also expressed their motivation to definitely take part next time,” Kuß continued.

If you would like to start training now, you will find a variety of sporting activities at www.ksv.ruhr.

The 3rd Kettwig Sports Badge Day will take place on June 19, 2025.
