The II Pedro Montesdeoca Memorial brings together 360 sixth grade students

This morning, the Gran Canaria Basketball Club and the Insular-Maternal and Child University Hospital Complex (CHUIMI) carried out the II Pedro Montesdeoc Memoriala, an activity about first aid in the Club Room of the Gran Canaria Arena. This action has been carried out to remember the figure of Pedro Montesdeoca, Traumatologist at the Canary Islands Maternal and Child University Hospital and doctor at the Gran Canaria Basketball Club for almost three decades. The activity was taught by nurses from the Permanent Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Classroom of CHUIMI and welcomed the CEIP The towersto CEIP TaurusCEIP Los Tarahales, Colegio Heidelberg, Colegio Los Ángeles and CEIP The tables.

This action is framed within Compromiso Granca, the social project that the Gran Canaria Basketball Club has been developing in the last two years. The primary objective is to train the youngest in first aid and highlight the importance of how to react in dangerous situations. This is an activity that CHUIMI carried out with Pedro Montesdeoca at the helm, and which can now reach many more boys and girls thanks to the presence of the Gran Canaria Basketball Club and the use of the Gran Canaria Arena.

Throughout the day, the students from the different centers present performed two theoretical modules and many others 30-minute practical modules. After the reception in the Club Room of the Gran Canaria Arena, the students were divided into different groups. In module one and module two the theoretical part was covered, with different explanations on how to act in different situations. On the other hand, in module 3 and module 4 the practical part took place, with different simulations for different aspects, such as the Heimlich maneuver, the assessment of level of consciousness and the lateral safety position, topics covered in the theoretical part. .

These actions are of vital importance for the survival of those affected. For this reason, the Gran Canaria Basketball Club and the Insular-Materno Infantil University Hospital Complex want to promote the training of students in topics that contribute to turning them into citizens of the 21st century.
