Remembering NBA Legend Bill Walton: A Tribute to a Basketball Icon

A new NBA legend has passed away. Star of the 70s and 80s in Portland, San Diego and Boston, Bill Walton died this Monday at the age of 71 from cancer, the NBA announced. After two NCAA titles with the UCLA Bruins, he was number 1 in the draft in 1974 and selected by Portland. Walton was one of the main architects of the Blazers’ only title in 1977, then won the MVP title in 1978.

Then moving to the San Diego Clippers, he joined Boston in 1986 and obtained a new NBA title, as Larry Bird’s understudy. An injury forced him to retire from sports during the 1986-1987 season. Entered the Hall of Fame in 1993, he became a popular consultant on ESPN from 2003.
