When is the draw?

On Saturday, June 1st, things are going to get exciting – at 6 p.m. the first round of the cup will be drawn at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. DFB Vice President Peter Frymuth will be in charge of the draw, and former Bundesliga star Nils Petersen will be the lucky dip fairy.

How is the draw made?

As always, there are two pots in the first round – the professional pot and the amateur pot. The total of 64 teams are evenly distributed between the two pots.

The professional pool consists of the 18 Bundesliga clubs from the previous season and the 14 best clubs from the last second division season.

The amateur pot contains the last four teams from the 2nd Bundesliga and the best four teams from the 3rd League. The remaining 24 teams have qualified via the respective regional cups. The largest regional associations are each sending two teams into the race: Bavaria, Lower Saxony and Westphalia.

First, a lot is drawn from the amateur pot, and this team then has home advantage in the first round.
