Antwerp Prepares for a Turbulent Summer: Costa Arrival Signals Changes Ahead

Antwerp will have to pull off a feat in its last two games to grab a European ticket, because in sixth place it is already five points behind fifth place. The Great Old seems to have to focus mainly on next season. A turbulent summer is coming at the Bosuil.

It is expected that there will be a significant exodus in Antwerp. Trainer Mark van Bommel will in principle leave and after that the club would also like to cash in on the necessary trendsetters. These many departures mean that a number of newcomers can also be expected.

Arrival of Costa in all its glory for Antwerp

A first acquisition could even be presented very quickly. In recent weeks, Antwerp has been explicitly linked to Ayrton Costa, a 24-year-old left back from Independiente. Initially he was mentioned at Club Brugge, but it quickly turned out to be the Great Old who pushed for his arrival.

In Argentina they now assure that the deal is complete. Antwerp is said to have reached an agreement with Independiente on a transfer fee of 2.3 million euros and, depending on the source, a resale percentage of 10 percent would also be included in the deal.

The Argentinian travels to Belgium on Monday

Costa will play the league match against Platense with his current club on Sunday evening and would then travel to Belgium to complete his transfer. So it could well be that white smoke will come from Deurne-Noord next week.

With the arrival of Costa, Antwerp anticipates the impending departure of Owen Wijndal, because the Dutch left back will return to Ajax after the expiry of his rental contract. Antwerp currently does not have another left back after Sam Vines returned to the United States in January. Jelle Bataille and Ritchie De Laet often broke down, but the latter will also leave soon.
