Juventus played defensively not because of Allegri’s wishes

Turin

Manuel Locatelli revealed that Juventus played defensively in the win over Fiorentina, which was against Massimiliano Allegri’s wishes. This tactic had to be implemented.

Juventus won 1-0 against Fiorentina in the 2023/2024 Italian League at the Allianz Stadium, Turin, Monday (8/4/2024) early morning WIB. Federico Gatti’s single goal won the Bianconeri 1-0 in the 21st minute.

After winning, Juventus preferred to play waiting. They let Fiorentina dominate. La Viola was so dominant that they recorded 75 percent possession of the ball compared to Juventus which only had 25 percent.

The Lady also only fired seven shots. Meanwhile, Fiorentina launched 13 attempts. However, Juventus’ back line appeared disciplined.

The tactical approach of Juventus coach, Massimiliano Allegri, which often defends itself when winning, has received a lot of criticism. This tactic makes Juventus’ appearance considered boring. Evidently, they have only scored 45 goals in Serie A, far behind AC Milan and Inter Milan who have scored 60 and 73 goals respectively.

However, Juventus pillar, Manuel Locatelli, revealed that Allegri actually didn’t want to play defensively against Fiorentina. This style of play had to be applied because Fiorentina managed to continue to pressure the Bianconeri, especially in the second half.

Therefore, Juventus must survive to maintain their lead. Remember, Fiorentina’s three points are very important. These results make Juventus currently in third place with 62 points.

“We didn’t decide; we wanted to play like in the first half, but we didn’t manage to do that because of Fiorentina. We suffered, but winning is fundamental, for the standings and morale,” the Italian midfielder told Sky Sport Italia.
