Handball: the French women’s team devours Latvia but does not match its biggest victory

Received six out of six. The French women’s handball team won each of its qualifying matches for Euro 2024. The last one was recorded this Sunday against Latvia, in Saint-Chamond (Loire). The Blue won with ease, with a score of 53 to 9.

Already qualified for the European Championship before the meeting, the French women had in mind to approach the largest victory in their history. It took place in October, during the first leg against the Latvians (55-8). The challenge was missed for the Blues, narrowly, but that remains anecdotal.

With 14 saves and only 2 goals conceded in the second half, goalkeeper Hatadou Sako confided her satisfaction to BeIN Sports: “It’s difficult in this match to stay focused. But they are also work matches. I always have the same desire, whatever the match. Even though we won by more than 40 goals, the pleasure is still there. It’s still handball, we play, it’s a game! »

Back in the French team for the first time since 2022, Pauline Coatanea also enjoyed: “I’m happy to be here, to be back with the group. I come back with great pleasure. We have always had a defensive trademark, today we also have the offensive aspect. This bodes well for this summer. »

The French had already defeated Italy last Wednesday (36-13). If this April gathering is not of great sporting interest since the Bleues have already qualified for Euro 2024 for several months, it is the last before preparation for the Olympic Games. This will begin on June 12. Before that, Olivier Krumbholz’s team will play a friendly match next Sunday in Clermont-Ferrand against Romania.
