FC Barcelona achieved an ideal starting position for a place in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in an offensive spectacle against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The Catalans won 3-2 in the quarter-final first leg on Wednesday evening after leading 1-0 and trailing 1-2.

Raphinha (37th, 62nd) scored twice and Andreas Christensen (77th) scored for coach Xavi Hernandez’s team. Ousmane Dembele (48th) and Vitinha (51st) scored the goals for the hosts. Before the second leg next Tuesday, Barca now has the best chance of reaching the semi-finals.

A game quickly developed in the Parc des Princes that left little time to breathe. PSG pressed high and put the guests under pressure early on, but the French initially couldn’t get any clear shots. But the Spaniards do. After a counterattack, PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma unfortunately blocked the ball at the feet of Raphinha – the Brazilian then flicked it into the goal.

PSG’s double strike is not enough to win

The game didn’t really pick up until after halftime. First, PSG turned the match around with a double strike from Dembele and Vitinha within three minutes.

However, the lead didn’t last long. First, Raphinha hit the bottom left corner of the goal with a volley after outstanding preparatory work from Pedri, who had recently been substituted, then Christensen headed in just two minutes after coming on to make it 3-2.

Barcelona are in the quarter-finals of the premier class for the first time since August 2020. At that time there was a 2:8 rebuff from eventual champions Bayern Munich. This time the chance of reaching the semifinals is alive.
