On March 13th, the winning works and artists for the 38th Japan Gold Disc Awards were announced, and the original soundtrack for the movie “THE FIRST SLAM DUNK” won Animation Album of the Year.

This movie was released in December 2022 and was the highest-grossing Japanese movie in 2023. It was broadcast not only in Japan but also in countries around the world, becoming a huge hit with a cumulative audience of 10.95 million people and box office revenue of over 15.8 billion yen.

The original soundtrack includes a total of 29 songs, including the opening theme song The Birthday “LOVE ROCKETS” and the movie version of the ending theme song 10-FEET “Dai Zero Kan”, which was also performed at the Kohaku Uta Gassen late last year. It completely covers the music used in the movie, including the music in the movie by Satoshi Takebe and 10-FEET’s TAKUMA.

“THE FIRST SLAM DUNK” is a full-length animated film based on the popular basketball manga “Slam Dunk.” It depicts the battles of the Shohoku High School basketball club, to which the main character Hanamichi Sakuragi belongs, and will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on February 28th.
